About Professor Leung 關於梁教授
Professor Rachel Leung joined the Department of Ophthalmology as a Clinical Assistant Professor in July 2024. After completing her medical training in Hong Kong, she received the Rhodes Scholarship to pursue a DPhil in Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Peter Rothwell and Mr Dominic PJ Howard.
Her clinical and research interests span ophthalmology, clinical neuroscience, and the development and translation of innovative technologies to improve the diagnosis, risk prediction, and management of common eye diseases and systemic conditions. She is particularly interested in data-driven, multimodal approaches that connect ocular imaging, neuroscience, multi-omics, and real-world clinical care.
梁雅媛教授於2024年7月加入眼科學系並擔任臨床助理教授。在香港完成醫學培訓後,她獲頒發羅德獎學金,在Professor Peter Rothwell 和 Mr Dominic PJ Howard的指導下,於牛津大學攻讀臨床神經科學博士學位。她的臨床及研究興趣涵蓋眼科、臨床神經科學,以及研發和轉化創新技術,以提升常見眼疾的診斷、風險預測及治療管理。她特別關注以數據為本的多模態研究,連結眼部影像、神經科學、基因組學及臨床實踐 。

Research 研究
Professor Leung’s research is centred on the interface between ophthalmology, neuroscience, and clinical translation. She is especially interested in glaucoma and retinal diseases, as well as broader questions in neurodegeneration and ageing. She is interested in leveraging retinal imaging, multi-omics, and machine learning to improve early detection, prognosis, and personalised care for common eye diseases and wider neurological and vascular disease. She also has a strong interest in the responsible development and evaluation of health technologies, including AI-assisted clinical tools and imaging analytics. Her research activity includes clinical studies, data-driven ophthalmic research, and collaborative work that bridges patient care, biomedical discovery, and technology translation.
Her research has been published in journals across ophthalmology, neurology, and epidemiology, and has been presented at major international scientific meetings. She collaborates with investigators from Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America on projects involving retinal and neuroimaging, multi-omics, and data science.
In addition to her academic research, Professor Leung served as a contributing physician to the physician evaluation and benchmarking process for HealthBench, a large-scale healthcare artificial intelligence evaluation initiative led by OpenAI in 2025.

Clinical Services and Teaching 臨床服務與教學
Professor Leung provides ophthalmology services at Queen Mary Hospital and Grantham Hospital. She has also volunteered with the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital in Rwanda, supporting the training of local ophthalmologists and capacity building in eye care.
She is committed to teaching and mentorship, and welcomes postgraduate students and research trainees. Her current projects are available on the Faculty of Medicine postgraduate projects page. She also serves as a reviewer for several journals, and volunteers as a grant reviewer for The Glaucoma Foundation.
梁教授於瑪麗醫院及葛量洪醫院眼科部提供臨床服務。她亦曾參與 Orbis 飛行眼科醫院在盧旺達的義工服務,協助培訓當地眼科醫生,並支持眼科服務能力建設。
